Alameda Snapshot
Alameda is a beautiful old town community found on 2 islands located in the San Francisco - Oakland Metro Area. Alameda the City is found in Alameda County which is on the southern part of the "East Bay".
The City is lined with historic Victorian homes along beautiful tree lined streets. Green in the Spring and Orange in the Fall, the mood of the seasons stays intact despite the steady weather and climate.
From the mom and pop shops that line downtown to the homes along streams and parks in BayFarm to the never ending fairs and festivals, Alameda has a commmunity charm often missed in the west coast.
Alameda History
Alameda's name comes from a Spanish word for "grove of poplar trees". It was part of a Spanish land grant handed to Luis Peralta in 1818 by the Governor of California.
The land would later be purchased by WW Chipman and Gideon Aughinbaugh who were one of the first to settle in the Alameda Area starting a peach orchard business.
In January 18, 1885, Alameda was officially approved as a City and in 1902 a tidal canal was built to connect the San Leandro Bay with the Oakland Harbor forming Island that Alameda is today.
Through this change Alameda soon became an important shipping port in the Bay Area.
As a Charter City of California, Alameda has the power to create and enforce its own ordinances and regulations under the rules and limitations of the charter rather than the most cities which are governed by the general laws of California.

General Info
"I lived in the suburbs of Los Angeles for 13 years and another 7 years in the East Bay. I live in a cute community city called Alameda. An island off the coast of Oakland
just a few miles from San Francisco. I moved to the Bay Area and never went back because the weather is beautiful all year around. The air is fresh and the food is excellent
both in San Francisco and in Oakland. Very unique and diverse dining all around. Plenty of job opportunities in San Francisco and Oakland as well as little known Emeryville.
Some choose to work in Palo Alto, Sunnyvale or Mountain View the hub of Silicon Valley and home to business giants as Google, Yahoo, Genetech (south sf).
There are many other great cities one could live in such as walnut creek up north, Fremont down south. It's expensive here but at least for me the life in the bay area is
well worth it.
